Programme overview

The 3rd Kuala Lumpur Valve Summit (KLVS 2013) aims to bring together heart specialists from various disciplines on a common platform to discuss how best to deal with heart valve diseases and their related problems. This meeting will be conducted by both nationally and internationally recognized cardiologists, cardiothoracic surgeons and anesthesiologists.

For this meeting, we have planned to incorporate several live transcatheter and surgical procedures involving the aortic, mitral and pulmonary valves with interactive sessions which we believe will allow the participants to learn first-hand directly from the experts. We will also focus on the technical aspects of heart valve preservation and repair surgery and state-of-art echocardiographic assessment. There will be specific focus on latest techniques including minimally invasive and percutaneous heart valve surgery as well as showcase of latest imaging modalities available to assess and to optimize management of heart valve diseases.

As this is the first time the KLVS meeting is held in conjunction with ECHO IJN, we will have a very attractive pre-summit workshop catering for both paediatric and adult clinicians. The pediatric session will emphasize on antenatal foetal echo, focusing on intrauterine diagnosis of valvular heart lesions. We plan to assemble a renowned international faculty to cater for the targeted audience of pediatric cardiologists and feto-maternal obstetricians. The adult session will address pressing issues with regards to heart valve disease and will be subdivided into basic and advance tracks. The Basic track will focus on the fundamentals of trans-thoracic echo examination in clinical practice. The Advance track will be conducted by an international panel of experts sharing their most updated experience on the usage of TTE as an advanced diagnostic tool as well as the utilization of TEE to guide the latest heart valve intervention procedures.
